Why Odyssey Apollo Option for Multi-Camera Production?

Sync

Matching file names, matching timecode, and Apollo’s AV Align feature saves you hours data wrangling and in post production editing.

One SSD

Only one 2.5” Solid State Drive is required to record the four video signals and switched program streams into one file on the drive.

One Codec

No need to transcode disparate codecs as recorded internally from different cameras; Apollo records to edit-ready Apple ProRes.

Switching

Using the touch-screen you can easily monitor and live switch your production, giving you a 5th recorded channel of the program stream.

Double Master

Spare the monotonous and time consuming process of duplicating copies of your data at the end of the shoot day, Create it simultaneously to your shoot in Apollo!

AV Align

Add frame delay BEFORE you begin shooting and spare the trouble of compensating for any audio/video latency in post production.

The All-In-One Production Problem Solver

The Odyssey Apollo Option transforms the Odyssey7Q or Odyssey7Q+ into a portable multichannel monitor/recorder/switcher that can simultaneously record up to four HD video signals, along with a fifth channel of either a live-switch, or a quad-split reference view. Separate ‘Preview’ and ‘Program’ outputs allow you to monitor on set while using Apollo’s touch screen for simple switching with cut or dissolves. Play back in perfect sync while toggling cameras. All of this functionality in a unit the size of a small tablet and capable of battery power for the ultimate portability.

Post Made Easy

With the Apollo Option, Odyssey records the multiple video signals in a multitrack QuickTime format specifically designed for multiple synced video and audio signals. The ProRes Transfer Tool, available for download from the CD Website, ingests the singular, multitrack file from the SSD card, and separates each track is converted to its own Apple ProRes file, with an extension to link the different matched files together. Each extension is letter A-D to signify to input, or QSLS to signify either Quad-Slip or Live-Switch if this was chosen to also be recorded. An XML file is also created with the metadata tags for Markers and Notations.

Apollo FAQ

Please see our Preset LUTs page for more information about built-in and additional preset LUTs on Odyssey and Apollo.

All LUTs are available for download here.

Apollo record times are dependent on how many video tracks are being recorded, the resolution, frame rate and codec. Apollo has two SSD slots with spanning (continuous recording from one SSD to another) and the current largest capacity SSD size is 1TB, allowing for 2TB of continuous recording.

Five tracks (four inputs + Live-Switch or Quad-Split) of 1080p30 recorded in Apple ProRes 422(HQ), will fill 2TB of SSD memory in 214 minutes (3:34).

Four tracks of 720p50 recorded in Apple ProRes 422(LT) will fill 2TB in 820 minutes (13:40).

Two tracks of 4K30p in Apple ProRes 422(HQ) will fill 2TB in 126 minutes (2:06).

Please view the Apollo Record Times Chart for record time estimates.

For those that wish to own a 4-camera monitor/recorder/switcher that can also capture a Quad-Split or a Live-Switch but do not have any need for single-channel recording, RAW, DPX or any of the other functions that are unique to the Odyssey7Q+, Apollo offers a simpler user interface that can be more easily configured. For an installation or other work where the device will be dedicated to multicamera recording and/or switching, Apollo is an ideal choice. For users who may have multiple functions for the device and may wish to reconfigure it for a given job, an Odyssey7Q+ with the Apollo Option offers the greatest flexibility.

Input A (either SDI A IN or HDMI IN) is required at all times. Either the SDI A/HDMI input or the SDI B input can be selected as the MASTER INPUT. The MASTER INPUT camera can be used to trigger recording and be the timecode source for the Apollo recording.

  1. On the Upper Toolbar, tap the RECORD STATUS button.
  2. Tap the MASTER CAMERA button to select from the list.
  3. Tap the MASTER INPUT button to select SDI A/HDMI or SDI B.

Note that the MASTER INPUT does not have to be used to trigger recording or generate timecode. Tap RECORD TRIGGER to select trigger method (Record Button, Camera, Remote, Timecode). Tap the INPUT/OUTPUT STATUS button and tap TIMECODE SOURCE to select timecode type (SDI/HDMI, LTC, Time-of-Day D/ND, or Seed/Record Run). SDI/HDMI is the MASTER INPUT.
